How to variation input & output for useing projector

According to the Gateway User Guide for the M520, you have to hold down the FN switch (bottom left corner) consequently press the F4 key. This should cycle the video within the following order:
LCD (the laptop screen)
External video port (where you own your projector connected)
Both LCD and External
S-Video
You want to have the projector turned on and running earlier you connect it to the laptop.
