dear friend, years ago I have all kind of hardware problems, which took me forever to figure out that the virus have corrected my drivers. I'm not sure that that is the lead to? Here is something that is worth the try though, right click my computer next select properties, hit the hardware tab, then the device bureaucrat button. Click each plus Mark, if you want to look for contained by the yellow balloon which indicate a problem. If you do have a problem try reinstalling the driver, and don't forget to reboot your computer.
You're Laptop is any a CD-ROM or DVD-ROM only and cannot play the other type.
It may be the compact disc brand some brands just don't work for guaranteed cd-readers. Try to burn it on a different brand of cd and see if it works.
laptops only mostly work on one cd type, there are 2, cd-r and cd+r. they look exactly alike but should say somewhere on the disk, appropriate out your cd rom drive and see on the label what it say, either cd-rw/dvd-rom or cd+rw/dvd+rom if it plays both, it'll read out both
You could try getting a CD cleaner and run it a couple of times. The Lens get dirty and can cause this problem. If this does not work It sounds approaching the CD drive may be on the blink, they are not to dear, get it checked at your local computer shop
